Why do most softball players wear masks when they bat?

i mean i know its to protect the ball from hitting their face, but baseball players never wear themWhy do most softball players wear masks when they bat?
actually you have a choice if you want to. I personnaly dont because it gets in my face. its just because most giurls are afraid of the ball hitting their face. but like i said, its a choice.Why do most softball players wear masks when they bat?
Harder to pick up a baseball if you are wearing one of those......
